Assessing the geothermal potential of 3 prospective sites

CFG Services assessed the exploration reports of 3 high-temperature prospective sites dedicated to electricity production (geology, geochemistry, geophysics, environmental studies, etc.). At these prospective sites, exploratory drilling will be carried out in 2011 and then power plants with a capacity of 100 - 200 MWe will be built in order to distribute the power to Sumatra and Java.
These projects will allow CO2 emissions to be reduced significantly.

Studying a district heating project

The goal of the project was to:

  • evaluate the geothermal potential in the cities of Yanqing and Jiamusi using the existing data (got from oil or gas, supplies of water or existing geothermal boreholes)
  • analyse the current and future heating and cooling needs
  • prepare the detailed feasibility study for an initial project (or new project) including: geology, geochemistry, drilling and tests, pumping equipment, heating network and sub-stations, adapting heating systems to geothermics, environmental aspects, project costs and economic and environmental analysis of the projects (IRR, reduction in CO2 emissions)

Developing the high-temperature geothermal field of Nevis and assessing the field's capacity

The island of Nevis is evaluating its geothermal field's potential for the production of electricity. An exploratory drilling program has been put in place to confirm the existence of a high-temperature reservoir likely to lead to the construction of a geothermal power plant.

Pre-feasibility study for the Wotten Waven geothermal project

As part of the INTERREG IIIB European programme, the Dominican Republic and the French partners have carried out a pre-feasibility study concerning the development of the high-temperature field at Wotten Waven, Dominica. The goal is to supply the domestic market and export the surplus via undersea cables to the neighbouring French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The project has a forecast capacity of 120 MW, with about 20 MW destined for the domestic market, 50 MW exported to Guadeloupe and 50 MW exported to Martinique.

DOM-COM: La Reunion

Exploratory boreholes campaign

In 2006, the La Reunion Regional Council launched a call for tenders for the Plaine des Sables prospective site. The goal of this project was to drill 3 exploratory boreholes to a depth of approximately 1500m in order to demonstrate the existence of a geothermal reservoir. If successful, this exploratory phase could be followed by a development project.
The program was temporarily halted at the end of 2008 following conflicts of interest between this geothermal exploration and the strict environmental protection of the site.

DOM-COM: Guadeloupe

Pre-feasibility study for the Bouillante 3 project

The operator of the Bouillante geothermal power plant in Guadeloupe wants to increase the production capacity of the Bouillante geothermal field by drilling new boreholes and constructing a new power plant, Bouillante 3.
CFG Services was in charge of the project's pre-feasibility study.
